The students examined the health of the Verde River while participating in a World Water Monitoring Day event and made observations about temperature, oxygen content, turbidity and levels of acidity. Red Rock State Park benefactors share award from the .governor The Benefactors of Red Rock State Park shared the Governor's 2010 Excellence in Economic Development Arizona Lottery Award for Cultural and Preservation Projects with other members of the Verde Valley State Parks Partnership. The award was announced and presented Oct. 15 in Flagstaffat the 2010 Governor's Regional and Rural Governors' Conference at the High Country Conference Center at Northern Arizona University. The. other members of the partnership are Arizona State Parks, Yavapai County, Town of Camp Verde, Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce, Camp Verde Historical Society, city of Sedona, town of Jerome, Jerome Chamber of Commerce and the Jerome Historical Society. The award is in recognition of the Partners' efforts to keep open three of the Verde Valley's State Parks that were due to Supervisor Chip Davis's fore- close because of lack of funding sight was critical in keeping the by the state: three parks open. The Benefactors of Red Rock State Park shouldered the heaviest financial burden of $130,000 for keeping the park open, and an additional $15,000 per year for the park's City Council awarded the Benefactors $15,000 for Red Rock State Park's continued operation. Other Sedona organizations also contributing include a grant of $7,500 from the Sedona 30, and a grant of $10,000 from the SedonaCommunityFoundation, as well as donations from many individuals who care about the park.
