Benefactors of Red Rock State Park
The Benefactors of Red Rock State Park announce
they have been awarded a grant of $10,000 from
the Sedona Community Foundation at the 2010
Spirit of SedonaAwards, Oct, 14. And as members
of the Verde Valley/State Parks Partnership
-- Partnering to Preserve Arizona's Crown Jewels
--they share the Governor's 2010 Excellence in
Economic Development Arizona Lottery Award
for Cultural and Preservation Projects, awarded
on Oct. 15 at the 2010 Governor's Regional and
Rural Governors' Conference at Northem Arizona
University in Flagstaff.
A benefit gala for Red Rock State Park featuring
the Chris Spheeris Trio will be held Sunday,
Nov. 7, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Goldenstein/
L.acy Ramada. For reservations go to www.bene

Democrats of the Red Rocks breakfast
Thursday, Nov. 18, will have Professor Stephen
Nufio speaking on Rhetoric and Reality: Latino
Immigration in the U.S. Everyone is welcome.
DORR breakfasts are held the third Thursday of
every month at the Olde Sedona Bar and Grill,
1407 W. SR 89A in West Sedona. Doors open at
8:15 a.m.; $11 charge includes breakfast, Seating

On Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m DORR, with
Sierra Club, will screen "The End of Suburbia,
Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American
Dream" at the Sedona Public Library, 3250 White
Bear Road. This film addresses the fact that
suburbia has become the American Dream with
all that promises, but as we enter the 21 st century
serious questions are beginning to emerge about
the sustainability of this way of life. This is free to
the public and everyone is invited.
Northern Arizona Stitchers
The November meeting of the Northern Arizona
Stitchers, a chapter of the .Embroiderers' Guild
of America, will be held Monday, Nov. 8, in the
Si Birch Community Room at the Sedona Public
Library. Meet 'n' Greet social time is 10:30 to
11 a.m. with the business meeting starting at
11 a.m. November's program will be a petite
project, Blackwork Dolls, taught by Margaret
Azpeitia-Taylor. For additional, information
regarding the Northern Arizona Stitchers, visit

In addition, there are informal Sit 'n' Stitch
sessions the first and third Tuesdays of each month
from 10 a.m. to noon. These are also held at the
library, usually in the Quiet Room located in the
middle of the library. Whether you stitch, knit
or crochet, you are welcome to join in these free
informal sessions. We enjoy meeting all those
who come to our meetings or come to visit with us
during our informal stitching sessions.
Rotary Club of Sedona
Fifty-five Rotarians and their guests met for
lunch and a tour of the new Sedona performing arts
center on Oct. 26. Club members were welcomed
by Rotarian Dave Young, project manager. He
noted that the $15 million project will open early
next year with a seating capacity of 750. Members
toured the entire facility including the new stage,
green room and rehearsal hall as well as the remod-
eled high school music room and gymnasium.
Volunteers were recruited to assist with the
club's sponsorship of the Veterans History Project
appreciation luncheon scheduled at the Sedona
Public Library on Oct. 30. Members were also
encouraged to sell tickets to Diwali -- Festival of
Lights celebration at the India Palace in Sedona on
Sunday, Nov. 7. The celebration is another New
Years All Year 'Round event -- ethnic dinners
focused on increasing international understanding
in Sedona.
The Rotary Club of Sedona meets every
Tuesday noon at the Los Abrigados Resort. Our
mission is to enhance community through service
and fellowship.
The Sedona Referrals Club
Larry Phillips of Supertree Enterprises Inc. was
our showboater Wednesday. Phillips is a certified
arborist and as such is well-versed in the care
of trees and other landscaping. He repeatedly
reminds us to water properly and to consult a certi-
fied arborist when it is time to remodel, landscape,
prune or remove trees. He passed out a booklet on
wildfire safety and a copy of the arborist's code
of ethics. Phillips is based in Flagstaff and works
the northern part of the state. Phillips answered
several questions from members.
