] Man makes livingrbreaking up couples in 'Heartbreaker'
The award-winning French
romantic comedy "Heartbreaker"
makes its Arizona premiere in
Sedona on Tuesday, Nov. 2, in
the Sedona International Film
Festival's Best of Fest cinema
series. There wilI be two screen-
ings of the film at 4 and 7 p.m. at
Harkins Sedona Six Theatres.
Film critic Leonard Maltin
raves that "Heartbreaker" is
so good that "it puts most of
Hollywood's recent romantic
comedies to shame and proves
there is still, vibrant life in the
genre"
"We often try to bring in
romantic comedies to give our
audiences a good laugh right
before the start of the holiday
season," said festival director
Patrick Schweiss. "And when
it comes to love and romance,
nobody does it better than the
French. There is a reason this
film is winning audience choice
awards around the world: It is the
perfect combination of romance
and humor."
Is your daughter madly in
love with a loser? Is your sister
engaged to a brutish lout? Is your
best friend dating a jerk?
One man can help the situa-
tion. His name: Alex Lippi. His
profession: Breaking up couples.
His method: Seduction.
Within a few weeks Alex
agrees to transform any husband,
fiance or boyfriend into an ex,
in exchange for a handsome fee
based on his successful reputa-
tion. Surxillance, phone taps,
false identities and a devastating
smile are only a few of the many
tools he uses to carry out his
assignments. But please note:
Alex does have ethics. He only
breaks up couples where the
woman s unhappy.
The women he targets for
seduction all drop like flies. In his
10-year career he's never failed
an assignment. To achieve his
goal, he is ready to do anything:
disguise himself, speak several
languages, dance like a pro, cook
like a chef, perform stunts. But
the company he created with
his sister and his brother-in-
law is financially on the skids.
"Operation Juliette" arrives just
in time to save the business.
His target is Juliette, a beau-
tiful, young and free-spirited

ALEX LIPPI is in the profession
woman is unhappy in the romantic
heiress. In 10 days, she is
scheduled to marry the man of
her dreams. But Alex has been
hired by her father to carry out a
"mission impossible" style seduc-
tion during which our high-flying
heartbreaker may discover that
when it comes to love, there is no
such thing as a perfect plan.
"The film is not totally politi-
cally correct," said director
Pascal Chaumiel. "There is
a minor underlying social
commentary. Alex is not from the
same class as Juliette, the young
woman he has to seduce. The
issue of class conflict is implicit.
The film shows that he has to
follow his instincts, flout social
conventions."
"The methods Alex uses are
sometimes questionable but his
work involves helping women
of breaking up couples when the
French comedy "Heartbreaker." The
with their life choices. In the end,
perhaps it is somewhat moral."
