By Michael Maresh registered voters on the early []1
LARSON NEWSPAPERS voting list. (lar oly)
With election day less than a
week away, a good percentage of
Yavapai County voters could be
casting their ballots early.
Yavapai County Recorder Ana
Wayman-Trujillo said the county
has 122,000 registered voters,
and 62,000 of them received an
early ballot. She said she was not
sure how many early ballots had
been returned
Wayman-Trujillo said voter
turnout for a state election in
the county is between 83 and 85
percent, so if the trend remains,
103,000 to 104,000 county resi-
dents will vote.
She said the 83 to 85 percent
of people voting includes the
percentage for residents voting
early.
"We don't get all the early
ballots back," she said. "We get
85 percent back."
The number of county resi-
dents voting early is not a huge
surprise, she said. In recent state-
wide elections, 50 percent voted
early.
She anticipates this year's early
voting numbers could be higher
because residents are getting
used to the idea.
"It could be 60 percent by the
time we are done," she said.
Residents, she said, have two
ways. to receive an early ballot
call the county to request
one or sign up to be on the early
voting list.
Wayman-Trujillo said there
are about 47,000 Yavapai County
Early voting has been
increasing throughout Arizona
for a few years, she said.
"Sixty percent is not abnormal
[for the county]," she said. "We
are looking at 60 percent, not the
normal 50 percent. More people
are finding how much they enjoy
voting early."
She said voters do not like
standing in line in cold weather
to vote, especially when realizing
there is an alternative.
One reason the county might
receive more early ballots this
year is because of the number of
propositions.
She said many voters need to
research the initiatives to gather
more information, she said.
"It is easier to do [research] in
• your home," she said. "I think
people like to take their time and
read all the information before
voting."
The Arizona secretary of state's
office did its logic and accuracy
test on the county's voting equip-
ment on Monday, Oct. 25.
Wayman-Trujillo said passing
this test allows the county to
process votesbefore the Tuesday,
Nov. 2, election date, though the
figures cannot be released until
then.
The first results the county
releases election night will
include the early ballots, she
said.
She said people still wanting to
vote early should drop off their
ballots at polling locations since
there might not be enough time
for them to be received by mail.

live out her dream of being an athlete. In fact, her

The Barlatric Surgical Weight Loss Center gave Judy
that chance. The team helped Judy make the changes
necessary to improve her health and lifestyle and
take her love of fitness to the next level.
Last June, Judy completed two open-water swm
