Newly appointed Program
Director Cyge stated, "I'm
very excited about the way
that the season is shaping up.
It promises to be a dynamic
mix of local, regional and
touring artists with styles
ranging from blues, to folk,
to extraordinary fingerstyle
guitar.
"The ever-popular Theme
Night Series is rounding the
corner on its first season and
audiences can continue to
enjoy the nostalgic offerings.
We're entertaining the idea

SEDONA PERFORMERS GUILD FOUNDER Suzie Schomaker will play
two nights of music at Studio Live on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17
and Sept. 18.
Julia Nuemark plays
with local mus0clans
Local musicians Jake Payne Page
and Decker will join Cincinnati 9
native Julie Nuemark with her
band at Gypsy Lounge at Ken's
Creekside on Friday, Sept. 17, at
8 p.m., 251 SR 179 in Sedona. m
Nuemark is on tour in support mZ
of her debut album "Dimestore
Halo" on Lonesome Day
O
Records.
Accoridng to a press release,
listening to "Dimestore Halo,"
savoring its greasy guitars, gut-
punch beats and vocals torn ,n
from a heart both broken and
toughened by life, a question
comes to mind: What's a girl like I
this doing from a place so nice?
To clarify: Neumark is actually I
friendly, accessible, funny and
charming. In other words, she's
pretty much the kind of person
you'd hope to meet if you were ]
passing through Cincinnati, her
IQ
hometown.
"My upbringing was picture-
perfect," she stated in a press
release, "from family vacations
to having parents who were
happily married for 33 years."
The problem is, of course, that
nothing is perfect -- not even
Cincinnati. "Because every-
thing was so nice, I put pres-
sure on myself to be perfect,
to stay within the lines and not
break any rules," she stated. "It
wasn't until I finally got out of
town that I started to discover
myself."
Jazz on the Rocks festival returns in October
Sedona Jazz on the Rocks' Fall
Festival 2010 has a new theme this year:
re.JAZZ.i.na.tion. It means that 'after a pass
last year, we are again bringing red hot jazz
to the red rocks of Sedona, and creating one
of the hottest jazz scenes in the country on
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1 and 2.
The festivities begin Friday with Jazz on
the Village Green from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tequa
Plaza in the Village of Oak Creek. This
will be a special evening of great jazz and
blues, performed under Sedona's starry
skies, by two of our area's finest bands:
The Eric Miller Band. featuring Miller's
hot flamenco jazz guitar: and The Wicked
Koalition and its boot-stomping blues
vibe, led by Arizona Blues Hall of Fame
inductee Jimmy Mack.
For the epicureans, I am pleased to note
that we are supported in this event by two
of Sedona's top-rated restaurants, both
offering discounted fine dining experi-
ences for just this event: Cucina Rustica is
presenting several Early Jazz Bird Specials
from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and, finishing with a
flourish, Panna Cotta in the Park from 9:30
p.m. until closing. [The code word for a
special festival discount is: Reservation
for Rejazzination.] Fork in the Road
has happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m., and is
offering an Early Bird dinner, consisting of
a tantalizing three-course meal, from 4:30
to 6:30 p.m, for $18 per person. This will
be a most enjoyable evening of fine food
and fantastic music.
Tickets are $15 in advance at www.
sedonajazz.com or by phone at 282-1985,
or $20 at the venue. Jazz on the Village
Green will sell out at 500 seats, so
tickets should be purchased now.
Saturday is Festival Day. We
have pulled out all the stops to stage
a lineup of exceptional musicians
from jazz, rhythm and blues, and
blues: jazzy and soulful, cool and
elegant, legends and rising stars
-- all poised to deliver outstanding
performances. We are featuring:
• Homemade Jamz Blues Band,
a trio of siblings, that is reigniting
energy and enthusiasm for blues
across the country with their mature
musicality. Homemade Jamz Blues
Band is garnering rave reviews
from critics and fans alike.
• Alberto Rodriguez has been enthusi-
astically embraced by the music industry
and jazz enthusiasts around the world for
his commitment, intensity and uncanny
mastery of jazz and classical piano. He is
the protEgEe of Quincy Jones, and named
one of the 12 best jazz pianists in the world,
H00An
BETIYE WILSON
eoe
according to a press release.
• Craig Chaquico's complete mastery
of his guitar allows him to speak through
it with an ethereal voice, cool or fiery,
composed or exciting, rock to smooth jazz,
all while retaining his relevancy across
four decades.
• Maysa defies categoriza-
tion. With at least three musical
elements working in her favor,
she is an immensely talented
vocalist with a powerful and flex-
ible voice, a singer-songwriter
with substance: and she exudes
star quality.
• Dennis Rowland is a consum-
mate showman who insists on
melody, creativity, and personality
as he pays his debt to classic soul,
with an irresistible jazz influence.
Five fantastic performances for
ticket prices that range from $52 to
$125. Tickets are available online
at www.sedonajazz.com or by phone at
282-1985. Please note: Advance Purchase
ticket prices include a $2 handling fee.
Student Tickets are $35 at the gate, with
student identification.
Our festival will be held again on the
beautiful grounds of the Poco Diablo
Resort, our host hotel. We are going
"green" this year, and are taking a number
of measures at the festival site to reduce
our impact on the environment. There will
be many practical improvements within
the environment, as well as many envi-
ronmental precedents, from energy-saving
processes to use of new technologies that
maximize the collection of reusable mate-
rials produced throughout the event.
And, most importantly, I want to extend
a wonderful, heartfelt, happy thank you to
the community that is Sedona -- to those
who are members of our jazz family, and
to the many sponsors, performers, volun-
teers and jazz fans who rallied to our cause
and have made this celebration possible.
We thank you Ibr believing in our mission
and in the work we do, for it is your
participation and support that enables us to
continue.
This is going to be an exciting celebra-
tion of music and life. so do come out to
kick back, relax and enjoy -- it's festival
time.
