Tim Jessup will perform the
songs of Dan Fogelberg and
Friends at APizza Heaven, 2675
W. SR 89A in Sedona, at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 18.
On the weekend of Aug. 27,
the fans of singer-songwriter
Fogelberg gathered from around
the world to celebrate his musical
legacy in the artist's hometown
of Peoria, I11. It was the largest
gathering of Fogelberg's fans
since his untimely death from
prostate cancer Dec. 16, 2007,
according to a press release.
Among the many artists invited
to perform was Sedona musician
Jessup. During the past several
years, Jessup has performed in
nine tribute concerts across the
Southwest, to honor the legacy
of Fogelberg and raise thousands
of dollars in donations for the
Prostate Cancer FoundatiOn.
The first of his efforts was a
memorial concert given at the
Sedona Creative Life Center
on Feb. 16, 2008. His efforts
did not go unnoticed by Jean
Fogelberg, and he was invited
to perform in Peoria, I11., along
with musicians from across the
U.S., including Michael Hanna,
Jim Photoglo and Jim Wilson,
who had recorded and performed
with Fogelberg for many years.
The event featured a full
weekend of musical perfor-
mances and the unveiling of
a memorial featuring some
of Fogelberg's most poignant
lyrics, etched into three large
granite boulders, overlooking
the Illinois river. A dedication
ceremony was presided over by
the city's mayor, Fogelberg's
mother Margaret, his brother
Marc, his wife Jean, and memo-
rial creator Hugh Higgins, with
a blessing given by the Rev.
Deborah Jelinek. Local musi-
cian and high school friend
Barry Cloyd performed the song
"Ever On" as the ceremony
concluded. Fogelberg fans were
also treated to trolley rides to
points of interest, including a
stop at the grocery store immor-
talized in his song "Same Old
Lang Syne."
The Sept. 18 concert will be
under the stars. Admission is
free. Reservations are recom-
mended; call 282-0519.
