September Moon
Tom Hood/Larson Newspapers
A WINDMILL FRAMES the moon as it shines over the Page Springs area on Monday, Sept. 13. With fall
approaching, nighttime temperatures are dropping but forecasters are still calling for warm days through
the weekend.

l00eats up despite end of summer
Labor Day has come and gone, and although the
temperatures are getting cooler every day, things
are really beginning to heat up at the Sedona
Public Library.
The Verde Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild
display in the front entry will continue September.
Take a few moments to look at this exhibit as you
come into the library or before you leave.
On Friday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. pianist James
Nalley will be presenting a lecture and recital,
"Synesthesia: A Journey into the World of Musical
Colors," in the Si Birch Community Room. On
Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m., Nalley will be
presenting a workshop, "Using Music to Inspire
and Create." Preregistration for the workshop is
suggested. The cost is $40 per person; please call
Nalley at 642-6002 to register.
The Friends of the Sedona Library will be
hosting Dinner in the Stacks on Friday, Oct. 1,
starting at 7 p.m. The price is $100 per person, part
of which may be tax-deductible. The food will be
prepared by a local caterer, and cocktails
will be served. There will also be music,
provided by pianist Nalley. Dinner in
the Stacks is a popular fundraising event
at many libraries throughout the United
States. Contact Charlene Lipka, president
of the Friends of the Sedona Library, for
more information at 274-5124 or char-
lenelipka@gmail.com.

from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is free
to the iaublic. There will be food vendors
on site, and more than 100 exhibitors
will showcase local and regional authors,
publishers, and other book-related
xrganizations.
The Friends of the Sedona Library Fall Book
Sale will open to the general public Saturday,
Oct. 16, and will continue through Sunday, Oct.
24. There will be a preview night for members
of the Friends, volunteers, and invited guests
on Friday, Oct. 15. If you want to help with setup,
this will begin on Thursday, Oct. 14. Please call
the library and leave a message for Richard Sauck
if you would like to help in any way with the
setup.
Many library patrons will be pleased to hear
that the signature event sponsored by the Friends
of the Sedona Library, the Festival of Wreaths, is
returning to the Sedona Public Library this year.
The festival will open with a Preview Gala and

are $15 each or $25 for two. An exciting new part
of the festival is the addition of handmade painted
ornaments, contributed by some of Sedona's
best-known artists. The gala will give attendees
'a chance to see the wreaths and ornaments, and
also enjoy local wine and appetizers from Sedona
restaurants. There will be'entertainment, a raffle
of items donated by lodal artists and businesses,
and a fabulous cake. Wreaths will go on sale to
the general public Monday, Nov. 15. Contact
the Friends of the Library for more information,
or pick up their newsletter, "Footnotes," in the
library.
Sedona Public Library has been chosen to be
one of the Benefiting Community Organizations
for the sixth annual Sedona Marathon, to be
held on Saturday, Feb. 12. The marathon enables
selected organizations to benefit from a portion
of the proceeds of the event as well as from dedi-
cated pledges made through associated marathon'
participants. This would be a great time to start
training for the full marathon, the half
• marathon, the 5K, and, new to the event
this year, the 10K. You can walk or run for
free as long as you raise pledges for the
library. If you would prefer to volunteer
rather than walk or run, that's great, too
-- this also supports the effort. You can
get more information about this at www.
sedonamarathon.com/charity.html in the
coming months.
Now that your summer vacation is over,
maybe you are wondering what new activ-
ities you could take on. Well, the library
has just the thing for you -- come and
volunteer. The library is always looking
for people to help in every possible way,
so please pick up a form the next time you
are at the library and get involved. You can
also find out more about volunteering on
our website at www.sedonalibrary.org/volunteers/
volunteer.html. Volunteering is a great way to get
to meet people while helping this crucially impor-
tant community resource.
You can always check the Sedona Public Library
website, www.sedonalibrary.org, or follow us on
Facebook or Twitter, for up-to-date information
on events at the library. And when you are in the
library, take a few moments to look at the kiosk or
check the boards for more library and other local
events. There is always something going on in
Sedona.
