Club News
Elks Lodge
Remember Bingo on Tuesday night, starting at
7 p.m and Sunday afternoon from 1:30 to 4:30
p.m. [doors open at noon] at the Sedona Elks
Lodge No. 2291, 110 Airport Road. Sixteen games
are played per session, including progressive and
specialty games. Free popcorn, water and coffee,
plus a snack bar selling hamburgers, fries, grilled
cheese sandwiches, chips, candy bars and dessert
is available. Watch for announcements on our
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday night dinners.
On Wednesday, May 26, join us for tacos - all
you can eat for $5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the lodge.
Dessert is extra.
If you like spaghetti, try ours, served with meat
or plain sauce and all the fixings, from 6 to 7 p.m
Friday, May 28, at the lodge. Cost is only $9 per
person and it includes dessert.

Marine Corps League
The Sedona Detachment 1237 of the Marine Corps
League meets on the fourth Thursday, May 27, at
6:30 p.m. at Elks Lodge, 110 Airport Road.
The Marine Corps League is a Marine Corps-
oriented organization comprised of persons who
are serving or have served in the Corps or as a
Navy hospital corpsman attached to the Fleet
Marine Force.

to join as regular members of the league may be
accepted as associate members. For more informa-

Red Rock Referral Network
Want to grow your business? The Red Rock
Referral Network is currently seeking members in
the fields of insurance, banking and law. We are part
of Business Networking Intemational, the world's
largest business and professional networking orga-
nization, whose primary purpose is to exchange
qualified business referrals. Each business cate-
gory is represented by only one member. Every
week, members present a "Sales Manager Minute"
to describe their company or service, and one
member gives a 10-minute spotlight presentation
about their business. Last week's meeting featured
Shelley Williams of Peoples Mortgage Company.
The Red Rock Referral Network meets
Wednesdays, at 7 a.m at the Golden Goose Cafe
and Bistro in West Sedona. Come join us for

Sedona Muses
At their May annual brunch, the Muses of the
Museum of Northem Arizona installed the Muses
2010-11 Board elected in April. Muses officers
are: Ruth Kane, president; Bennie Blake, first
vice president, programs; Sam Braun, second vice
president, membership; Marian Brookman, trea-
surer; Babble Cameron, recording secretary; Sue
Dannert, corresponding secretary.
As they have done annually for 27 years, the
Muses presented MNA's director, Robert Breunig,
with a check for $11,000, the proceeds of the
Lecture Series and other events held during the
2009-10 year.
The Muses will be on hiatus until Thursday,
Sept. 2, when their monthly meeting schedule
resumes. During the summer interim, Muses can
be found volunteering and attending MNA's Zuni,
Hopi and Navajo Festivals, and visiting the muse-
um's special exhibits.
Sedona Referrals Club
Sharon Hooper, professional certified coach of
Vision Journeys, was our showboater wednesday.
She shared about finding our passions, which
change throughout our lives. She has had various
careers, including running a day care facility at
Fort Ord and a record company with her husband,
Richard. Her current passion is helping people to
write and publish books. She brought in several
books that she has assisted her husband with,
including "The Crucifixion of Mary Magdalene,"
"The Common Teachings of Four World Religions"
and their newest book, "Hymns to the Beloved."
Becky Lane of'Heartline Cafe was our speaker
Wednesday. Lane was born in Los Angeles and
adopted as a 7-day-old infant by friends of her
biological family. Her parents divorced when she
was 8 and she moved to Arizona with her mother.
She grew up in the Verde Valley and attended
college in Phoenix. She has had numerous jobs,
the worst being a car salesperson and her current
best job, being a great mother. She had her 17-
month-old son Matthew with her Wednesday as
her "helper."
The Sedona Referrals Club meets Wednesdays
at 7 a.m. at the Heartline Cafe in West Sedona.
Each meeting features a showboater and a speaker.
Each member and guest is allowed a one-minute
commercial as part of the meeting format. The
club promotes prospect referrals and each business
category is represented by only one member. For

Sedona i otary Club
The Sedona Rotary Club met Tuesday noon
at Los Abrigados for its weekly meeting. Guest
Rotarians were visiting from Seattle; Sunnyvale,
Calif.; and Flagstaff and were welcomed by
President Gary Karademos.
Connie Bullock, assistant governor, presented
the District's Presidential Award to Karademos
and the Rotary Club of Sedona with an award for
distinguished'service during the past year.
President-elect Catherine Moore, the lead on the
Mosiro Water Project, has signed the contract to
move forward with the first phase of the intema-
tional outreach district project. A check for the first
installment was wired May 10.
District 5490 Nominating Committee selected
Craig Wilson, past president of Phoenix 100, as the
district governor nominee designee.
Eric Wolverton, director of St. Mary's Food
Bank in Flagstaff presented an informative talk
on the extensive work the food bank accomplishes
here in the Verde Valley and Flagstaff area.
The Rotary Club of Sedona meets each Tuesday
noon at Los Abrigados. All visiting Rotarians,
guests, and those interested in Rotary are most
welcome.
Toastmasters of Sedona
7 a.m. is no longer as early as it seemed in
January. Now that the sun is up at that hour, the'
question we ask is, "Are you up on your speaking
skills?" If not, if you still dread public speaking,
then it is high time that you shook offyour public
speaking jitters. Come and see what Toastmasters
is all about, i.e learning speaking skills that will
help you on the job or in everyday life. Humor
abounds, and visitors are always welcome.
Speaking honors for this week went to Alan
Jenkins for Best Table Topics and to Laura
Vandegrift for Best Evaluator. The Best Speaker
award went to Coleen Moore for her speech enti-
tled "Flying Lessons."

held every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the Church of
Christ, 2757 W. SR 89A in West Sedona.
The University Women
The University Women of Sedona will hold
their annual luncheon and last meeting until fall
on Monday, June 7, at 11:30 a.m. at the Agave of
Sedona, North Airport Road. The goal of this orga-
nization is to provide several scholarships a year to
women returning to college. The group provides
financial assistance through Yavapai Community
College, Coconino Community College, Yavapai
College and Northern Arizona University.
This month's meeting honors four scholarship
winners for the 2010-11 academic year. They
are Stacey Le, a nursing student from Leupp,
and Danita Cookson, a psychology student
from Flagstaff, both of whom attend Coconino
Community College; Hannah Shelly from Sedona,
studying elementary education and attending
Yavapai College; and Sarah Frain from Flagstaff
who attends NAU and is majoring in biology and
secondary education.
We invite all women graduates of a four-year
accredited college or university to attend our May
meeting. Guests and prospective members are
welcome at all monthly meetings, held on the first
Monday of each month November through June. For

Verde Valley Archaeological Society
The monthly meeting of the Verde Valley
Archaeological Society will return to the Sedona
Public Library on Thursday, May 27, at 7 p.m. Our
speaker will be Stewart Deats, senior archaeologist
and lab director of EnviroSystems Management
in Flagstaff. He will discuss the results of
EnviroSystems' archaeological work at three sites
in the Verde Valley. Their most recently completed
excavation was at Grey Fox Ridge at the north-
west edge of Cottonwood. The other two sites
were located in Camp Verde, northwest of Bashas'
between Old Highway 279 and the Verde River.
All three sites were pit house villages with multiple
occupations and containing pit structures, human
remains, storage and roasting pits, and a variety of
other features. This will be our last meeting until
September.
