HORSE CRAZY LENA DICKIE was photographed around 1990. Dickie was a Sedona resident for close ~o
40 years, and during that time she was a fixture in the St. Patrick's Day Parade with her miniature horses
and trained dogs. She managed the Humane Society of Sedona and was an award-winning animal trainer
and craftswoman, making many of her own wagons and costumes. Always the consummate showwoman,
Dickie was quick to share her love of animals and performed every chance she got in Sedona rodeos and
at other civic events and meetings.

When the mail ballots go out in mid-February, Sedona voters have the opportunity
to fill 5 open seats on our 7-seat City Council. What a great privilege and
responsibility you and I have to play an active role in Sedona's future!
I am seeking a 4-year term on City Council in order to help lead Sedona during
this critical time when important fiscal, business and environmental issues are top
priorities requiring smart, committed, and action.oriented leadership. I look
forward to putting my experience, skills and love of Sedona to work for you.
The Sedona Community Plan is Up for Review
and Will Guide Our Future
Our next Council will hold in its hands the future of Sedona as the 2002 Sedona
Community Plan comes up for its 10-year review, a two-year process including public
participation. Sedona residents will have the opportunity td establish a vision for Sedona
for the next 10 yearsand to set the guidelines and policies related to growth, land use,
housing, open space, environmental planning water resources, community facilities,
economic development, tourism, historic preservation, arts and culture and other
subjects of importance to our cir. The Community Plan will bethe community's
vision to guide Council's decisions for the foreseeable future.
Now, more than ever, the Councilors elected in March need to listen
to and respect the needs and opinions of our eatire community.
Here are my personal commitments to you:
1. I will listen to and respect the will citizens of Sedona.
2. I will seek to sustain or enhance our quality of life in financially and environmentally
responsible ways. I am committed to finding ways for the City to exist within its means
while meeting the needs of residents and businesses.
3. I will continue the dedication I exhibited as President of Keep Sedona Beautiful to
protect the awesome starry skies of Sedona. I will advocate for proven and effective
Safety solutions proposed by the 89A Safety Advisory Panel which did not include
continuous roadway lighting. ::
4. I will continue to strongly support the preservation of the beautiful natural ;
surroundings that attracted us all to Sedona. I will pursue a National Scenic Area
designation to permanently protect 160,000 acres of National Forest Service lands J
from land trades for private development.
I strongly support your right to elect your Council representatives when long-term
vacancies occur, and your right to directly elect the Mayor of Sedona rather than
have the Council elect the Mayor.
Please vote for me so that I can work for you.
Let's be the change we want to see.
Feel free to contact me for more information
